Saltwater is an ongoing dramatic comic book series set in the alternative past. Instead of waiting and competing with Russia to reach the moon, a coalition of corporations come together after World War Two to send colonists to Mars in order to make the Red Planet habitable for humans.
Global Cooperative (GC) launched several space ships to Mars starting in 1955. The first, Endeavour One, carried the colonists. Several supply ships launched during the following ten years until a global catastrophe brought the mission to a sudden end. Aliens from an unknown galaxy invaded and took up residence along the Earth’s coastlines. There they created vast factories that harvested the oceans for a purpose no one would ever understand. Humans tried to resist but all attempts failed to even slow the immigration.
Forty years later a weak signal reaches Mars. A young colonist receives the message and reports her discovery. The colonists, having been completely cut off from Earth since the invasion, finally learn what happened. They had no idea why their communications were abruptly cut off and had assumed that a giant asteroid had slammed into their home world. Now these men, women, and children of Mars must come to terms that their planet of origin has been overrun with Aliens. How will they react to this news? What does this mean for humanity? Is there anything they can do about it?
KikaMika Comics presents Saltwater as an ongoing series from the point of view of Science Fiction writers from the 1960’s. Set in 2005, the dramatic confrontations, costumes, production design, and themes are meant to recall the nostalgia of 1950’s and 60’s sci fi films, literature and comic books.
